Wotan condemns his daughter Brunnhilde to sleep on the Valkyries rock until a man finds her and wakes her. To ensure only the noblest of heroes finds her, he summons Loge to surround her rock with a circle of fire, and proclaims that whoever fears his spearpoint shall never pass through the flames. A concert performance from the BBC Proms in 2005, from the Royal Albert Hall.
The famous 'Magic Fire' music is spine-tingly dramatic and powerful, as is Wotan's farewell which sadly could not be included in it's entirety due to time constraints. Try not to be too scared by Pappano's mad staring eyes as he conducts the 'Feuerzauber' ... another case of a conductor getting lost in the deep Wagnerian sound!
