The text is by Antoine Houdar de la Motte. It was premiered at the Académie Royale de Musique on 24 October 1697, with Marin Marais directing. The historical circumstances linked to the title concern the proclamation of the Treaty of Ryswick (1697), which had great implications for the France of Louis XIV, and gave hope of a permanent reconciiiation between European powers. The score was reprinted in 1724, by Jean-Baptiste Christophe Ballard. Stravagante has chosen this print as the basis for the modern performing edition, prepared by Olivier Fortin.
