From the composer: "'Circles' is a vehicle for creative improvisation that uses a software-based notation interface. The title is completed by the number of performers in a given performance. The notation for each performer takes the form of a circle, with an animated clock-like hand that rotates back and forth at different speeds. The position of the clock hand cues the performer to make sounds at specific times within broad categories--a long or short sound, for example. However, the precise choice of sound is left to the performer. In this sense, the piece is a reflection of the individuals who participate in any given performance."
