Description on Youtube:
Leonard Bernstein said that Shostakovich's 9th Symphony was the lightest of the composer's fifteen symphonies and also the most Haydnesque. Here he is conducting the work with the Vienna Philharmonic in 1987. (Note: the screen width has been changed back to the TV ratio of the time. This means that the occasional cut-off heads at the top were the responsibility of the original TV cameramen. It also means we now get black bars either side of the screen.)
