This rapid-fire virtuosic Study for Mixed Accents was written during the American composers Study in Berlin on a Guggenheim Scholarship. She was the first woman to be awarded this and the results of her study were a new and mature language, contrasting with Crawford Seeger’s earlier Preludes for Piano and other works which are far more Mystical.
