Explore highlights from our 2011 collaboration with Nico Muhly at Kings Place: an all-American programme which looks to the stars and fires the imagination.
Byrd (arr. Muhly) - Miserere mei, Deus
Muhly - Seeing is Believing
Adams - Chamber Symphony
Thomas Gould - electric violin
Nicholas Collon - conductor
Inspired by the ancient practice of mapping the stars, Nico Muhly’s concerto for six-string electric violin Seeing is Believing was commissioned by Aurora Orchestra in 2008. In this performance, the work is paired with Muhly’s own arrangement of Byrd’s exquisite choral motet Miserere mei, Deus, speaking to the composer’s lifelong love of English Tudor music. Completing the programme is John Adams’ iconic Chamber Symphony, a virtuosic rollercoaster which pays homage to the dazzling, acrobatic music of 1950s cartoons.
Filmed live at Kings Place on Saturday 7 May 2011.
