Nocturne in Bb Major -John Field. The music that inspired Chopin to write nocturnes
Description on Youtube:
John Field’s Nocturne in Bb Major played on a Steinway Model B grand piano. The Irish composer John Field (1783-1837) was as much a contemporary of Beethoven’s as of the later piano masters that he influenced so much. Incredible to think really the short span of years that our most beloved composers lived in. Field was greatly admired by Chopin, Brahms, Schumann and Liszt, and Field was the first to create the nocturne. Chopin was inspired so much that he went on to create his globally loved nocturnes. Field studied with Clementi in London and he travelled to Paris and Russia with his teacher. Field actually died in St Petersburg in 1837. It’s sad that the first and only name that comes to mind when we think of the word nocturne is Chopin. I’m dedicating this performance to John Field to thank him for his work and for creating the beloved nocturne and inspiring what was to come. The Bb nocturne is beautiful, expressive, and so sweet (dolcissimo). The melody is an understated aria. I hope you enjoy it.
