Air String – Nejc Kuhar
This video is made in cooperation with acting student Eva Mareen. RAAS has already realised a project with her in the past and is hoping to do so again in the near future.
I have loved the wintertime
The fleeting and faded falling flurry
petrified on overhanging trees
the ermine blanches white
bloodthirsty for hares’ throats.
The snow dulls the din to a murmur,
its crisping leaves no lingering distance
to starch-stark trees the frost gives clarity
I don’t give a damn about the summer
Windows open to the madhouse
Of the world.
The text fragments come from two poems by Jan Wolkers: ‘I have loved the wintertime’ (1999) and ‘I don’t give a damn about the summer’ (2000). Ruth, the violinist, used his poems as a binder throughout her exam. We found the effect so powerful, that we wanted to share this fragment of it with you.
This poetry contains beautiful images. Wolkers’ purpose is not to draw up complicated metaphors. Thus the atmospheric word paintings can be linked to the different moods of the music.
Enjoy!
