A Far Cry - Dvořák: Nocturne in B major, op.40
Description on Youtube:
From our 2010-11 season's final concert titled, First Light, we opened the program with this gem by Antonin Dvořák. Originally written as a movement in his String Quartet, op.9, it then went through a transformation as the "Intermezzo" movement of his String Quintet, op.77 (originally op.18). And finally Dvořák thought, 'Hmm..I do love this tune..!' he then orchestrated it for String Orchestra as op.40. The opus numbers of Dvořák's works are rather confusing, as his own cataloging very often were changed by his publisher, Simrock.(Read all about it here: http://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/?fuseaction=composition&composition_id=3946) Performed live at the lovely acoustics of Jordan Hall on 3/31/11 in Boston, and captured by Simon C. Yue for A Far Cry.
