SYMPHONY CONCERT
Santtu-Matias Rouvali, conductor
Timo Korhonen, guitar
Hakola: Guitar Concerto
Bartók: Dance Suite
Ravel: Bolero
Young conductor comet Santtu-Matias Rouvali makes his debut with the orchestra of his home city. The Guitar Concerto by Kimmo Hakola draws on Sephardic Jewish tradition. Timo Korhonen, the soloist, has described it as "a shamelessly original work". A dance suite by Hungarian Béla Bartók is followed by Maurice Ravel's Bolero, originally written as ballet music. A very unusual work, it has become the best-known one by Ravel.
