Johann Friedrich Fasch (1688 - 1758)
Allegro - Largo - Allegro
Orquestra Ars Musicae de Mallorca
Clara Cowley, recorder
Time is a bitch. Well, someone needed to say it. You can compose the hell out of yourself, and then time will stroll along, you know, sand and all, and half your work is lost. The more time it has for its shenanigans, the more is lost. I'm sure Mr. Fasch here would agree. There he is, in his frilly Baroque velvet outfit, and his tall Baroque wig, sitting by Baroque candle light and the Baroque stench of any old Baroque town, writing down all them little black - Baroque - notes. Figuring out just how to vex that insufferable, obnoxious, yet Baroque, recorder player (a rare occurrence, I swear) the most. While I must say he probably very much succeeded, I'm pretty sure I just lost you all.
Time, we were saying, is a bitch. But sometimes, and only sometimes, luck outsmarts it. Sometimes, an attic is reopened, an old box stumbled upon, and old scores resurface out of the depths of the past. Sometimes you wish it had never been found. Good gracious, all them little black notes. The old man must have really hated that recorder player's guts.
But hey, let's be honest - it rocks.
