Description on Youtube:
The French composer André Messager (1853-1929) is remembered today as a composer of light operas, and in particular, ' Veronique ' (1898). He was a noted conductor, and presided over the premiere of Debussy's ' Pelléas et Mélisande '. He is not at all known for piano music - except for his collaborative work with his teacher and friend Fauré, the four-hand quadrille ' Souvenirs de Bayreuth ' , which is still widely played; and the 1899 Solo de Concours for clarinet, which is a repertoire staple for that instrument. This piece seems to have been written for a 1908 edition of a musical journal. It is quite Fauré-esque, and balletic (Messager wrote several ballets).
