♪♫♪ ♪♫♫♪ My discovery of this sonata came from exploration of the piano repertoire, more specifically a CD titled The Virtuosity of Earl Wild. If you think about it the greatest sonatas for violin and piano were for the most part written by pianists that did not play violin for example Strauss, Brahms, Faure, Lekeu, Beethoven, Franck, etc. I focused my attention on neglected piano composers from the late classical and romantic eras and discovered many names I was unfamiliar with like John Field, Clementi, Pleyel, Ries, Czerny, Hummel, Raff, Herz, Thalberg, Moscheles, Rubenstein, Paderewski, Godowski, Busoni, Reger, Henselt, Kalkbrenner, Weber, Dohnanyi, Dussek, Mayerl, Gottschalk, Bulow, Dukas, Tomasek, Pixis, Chabrier, Cui, Borodin, Medtner, Scriabin, Bax, Grainger, Moszkowski, and Scharwenka. Even if some of these composers did not wire music for violin and piano I continue to encourage violinists to transcribe piano music for violin for example Chopin wrote nothing for violin but many have transcribed his works for violin - extreme examples of this is a Chopin Ballade transcribed by Ysaye and recorded by Graffin and Liszt Mephisto Waltz recorded by Rachel Barton Pine. I would love to hear some more violin interpretations of the music of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. ♪♫♪ ♪♫♫♪ To gain a better understanding of the chronology violinist composers and soloists that came after Mozart, I have made a list including the year each was born: Corelli 1653 Vivaldi 1678 Bach 1685 Tartini 1692 Locatelli 1695 Leopold Mozart 1719 Hellendaal 1721 Nardini 1722 Gavinies 1728 Haydn 1732 Boccherini 1743 Cambini 1746 Clementi 1752 Viotti 1755 Fiorillo 1755 Shaw 1755 Wolfgang Mozart 1756 Lindley 1756 Pleyel 1757 Dussek 1760 Brooks 1760 Kerutzer 1766 Wesley 1766 Beethoven 1770 Balliot 1771 Paer 1771 Rode 1774 Hummel 1778 La Font 1781 Paganini 1782 Spohr 1784 Ries 1784 Weber 1786 Lipinski 1790 Czerny 1791 Rossini 1792 Schubert 1797 Rolla 1798 Beroit 1802 Berlioz 1803 Saint-Lubin 1805 Ole Bull 1810 Mendelssohn 1809 Ferdinand David 1810 Chopin 1810 Robert Schumann 1810 Liszt 1811 Massart 1811 Ernst 1812 Thalberg 1812 Alkan 1813 Wagner 1813 Sivori 1815 Alard 1815 Dancla 1817 Bazzini 1818 Clara Schumann 1819 Vieuxtemps 1820 Franck 1822 Raff 1822 Lalo 1823 Smetana 1824 Bruckner 1824 Rubinstein 1829 Goldmark 1830 Joachim 1831 Brahms 1833 Accolay 1833 Borodin 1833 Zarzycki 1834 Wieniawksi 1835 Saint Saens 1835 Cui 1835 Balakirev 1837 Bruch 1838 Tchaikovsky 1840 Rieding 1840 Svendsen 1840 Dvorak 1841 Massenet 1842 Grieg 1843 Sarasate 1844 Rimsky-Korsakov 1844 Wilhelmj 1845 Auer 1845 Faure 1845 Marsick 1847 Seitz 1848 Godard 1849 D'Indy 1851 Sauret 1852 Sevcik 1852 Foote 1853 Janacek 1854 Moszkowski 1854 Chausson 1855 Sinding 1856 Taneyev 1856 Elgar 1857 Hubay 1858 Ysaye 1858 Paderewski 1860 Mahler 1860 Arensky 1861 Catoire 1861 Debussy 1862 Delius 1862 Strauss 1864 Ropartz 1864 Sibelius 1865 Glazunov 1865 Nielsen 1865 Busoni 1866 Novacek 1866 Satie 1866 Maud Powell 18
