I do not own copyright of this, but it has long been unavailable and I can find no other video performance so I hope this rare work will be permitted to stay here, it certainly deserves to be seen and heard.
This is an opera with aspects of an oratorio, with the chorus often holding 'scores' - these are props, indicating the chorus are not participants but rather observers/commentators (the lead also has a score briefly - I'm not sure why as she is so totally in command of this demanding role). There are minor cuts, mainly a ballet sequence. Movement is often stylsed rather than naturalistic, and performances, to my mind, are outstanding. This work deserves a new staging and video recording, although it is expensive, lengthy and difficult to stage. I believe this production (1993) although perhaps corny in a few places to modern eyes, surmounts most of the challenges and features an outstanding cast with Nina Rautio excelling as Joan.
