As one of the eclectic Russian composers of his generation, Arensky displayed his easy command of keyboard textures, ready flow of lyrical melodies. As a teacher of Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, and Glier at the Moscow Conservatory, he showed his imagination effectively in the keyboard miniatures like this set. Or one can guess he captures some of the moments from his early life indulging in drinking and partying.
