In this 1930 work by Bax he consciously parodies Richard Strauss-apparently to win a bet that he could not do it. He jokingly refered to it as his "Douglas Fairbanks Overture.
The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is conducted at the 1994 Proms concert by the renowned conductor Richard Hickox known for his interpretations of 20th cent.British and coral music and who sadly died far too young age 60 on Nov 2008.
