EChO Spring 2016 Concert 3 - EChO Early/Contemporary Orchestra
ANTONIO VIVALDI: Concerto for Flute Concerto in E Minor, RV 431
Born: March 4, 1678
Died: July 28, 1741
Instrumentation: flute, violins, viola, continuo
There is fascinatingly little information about this flute concerto online. Kirsten Hall, our flute soloist wrote
this in an email about the piece:
As I had been tracking down different recordings of the Vivaldi, I became more and more confused! In some
recordings and on IMSLP, it's labeled as the E minor concerto RV 431. But in these two other recordings
(which are the same 1st and third movements), it's the d minor "Il Gran Mogol" either RV 431a or RV 431 with
a mysterious 2nd movement—which are different in each recording!

But then in other recordings, the 431a is something completely different:

And then, it seems that the Il Gran Mogul ms was recently discovered:

Anyway, something strange is afoot.
