Komei Abe(1911-2006) is a Japanese forgotten composer. His style is under the influence of the neo-classicism. Most of his work is for strings(including fifteen string quartets), and this piece is one of his little number works for piano. So it sounds as if he translates the string quartet into the piano score.
This work expresses the Japanese beauty, especially Kyoto. The 2nd mov is titled as 'The Song of Quiet Forest'. It is the imitation of a bird's chirping.
The CD of the orchestral works is available from Naxos(this is recommended).
