Luigi Boccherini: Symphony in D major, G. 503 (Op. 12/1), movement 4. Presto assai
Raymond Leppard / New Philharmonia Orchestra
Pieces from the classic period of music history are usually not among my favorites, but this piece is an exception. While the first movement sounds very much like any other from the late 18th century, the remaining movements are sublime to my ears. I especially love movement 2. I don't understand why it is not one of the most well known slow movements of all time. Then again, familiarity breeds contempt, so maybe it's for the best that it has been overshadowed by the likes of Mozart and Haydn. I can enjoy it more that way. I hope you do too.
